गङ्गातीरमनुत्तमं हि सकलं तत्रापि काश्युत्तमातस्यां सा मणिकर्णिकोत्तमतमा यत्रेश्वरो मुक्तिदः ।देवानामपि दुर्लभं स्थलमिदं पापौघनाशक्षमंपूर्वोपार्जितपुण्यपुञ्जगमकं पुण्यैर्जनैः प्राप्यते ॥ ४ ॥
In plain words
Every stretch of the Ganges bank is beyond compare — and even there, Kāśī stands highest of all. And within Kāśī, Maṇikarṇikā is the highest of the high, for there the Lord himself gives mukti. This ground is hard to reach even for the gods. It can wipe out a whole flood of sin. It is the sign that a store of puṇya earned in earlier lives has come due — and it is people carrying that merit who arrive here.
Close to the Sanskrit
The bank of the Gaṅgā is indeed unsurpassed, all of it; even there, Kāśī is the highest; and in her, that Maṇikarṇikā is the highest of the high, where the Lord is the giver of liberation. This place, hard to obtain even for the gods, able to destroy the flood of sin, making evident the heap of merit earned in former lives, is reached by meritorious people.
