In plain words
He makes the pilgrimage to where the Ganges meets the sea; he keeps every vow to the letter; he gives his wealth away. But a man empty of jñāna — and on this every school agrees — does not reach mukti in a hundred lifetimes of it.
Close to the Sanskrit
He performs the journey to Gaṅgāsāgara, or the full keeping of vows, or charity; but one destitute of knowledge, by the opinion of all schools, does not obtain liberation even by a hundred births.
