। ॥ ३ ॥
In plain words
I am no child, youth, or old man. I belong to no Varṇa, no social order; I am neither a Brahmacārin under student vows nor a Gṛhastha, a householder. I am no Vanastha dwelling in the forest, nor one who has laid down Dharma in renunciation. I am Śiva, the one cause from which the world is born and into which it dissolves.
Close to the Sanskrit
I am indeed not a child, not a youth, not indeed an old man; not a Varṇin—one who belongs to a social order—nor a Brahmacārin, a celibate student, nor a Gṛhastha, a householder; nor am I a Vanastha, a forest-dweller, nor one whose Dharma, whose ordained way of life, has been laid down. I am Śiva, the sole cause of the world's birth and destruction.
