The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Nirvāṇaṣaṭkam

Verse 1

In plain words

I am not the mind that keeps talking, not the intellect that decides, not the ego that claims it all, not the memory that stores it. I am not the ear or the tongue, not the nose or the eyes. I am not space, earth, fire or air. I am awareness itself, and it is whole: I am Śiva, I am Śiva.

Close to the Sanskrit

Mind, intellect, ego-sense and mind-stuff — I am not these; nor am I ear and tongue, nor nose and eyes. Nor am I ether, earth, fire or air. Of the nature of consciousness and bliss, I am Śiva, I am Śiva.
