In plain words
Shove a gourd down under the water and it rises straight back up. The mind is the same: you set it in your own true nature by sheer effort, and out it slips again.
Close to the Sanskrit
The gourd-fruit, even though forcibly thrown downward inside the water, comes back upward; likewise the mind, placed in its own nature by effort, goes outward.
