The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Praśnottararatnamālikā

Verse 20

In plain words

To whom do the gods bow in reverence? To the one whose very nature is compassion. And what causes revulsion in the wise? The wild forest of worldly life.

Close to the Sanskrit

To whom do the gods offer prostrations? To him whose principal quality is compassion. From what does agitation arise for the wise person? From the forest of worldly existence.
