‘अहमस्मि’ इति; न किञ्चिदन्यच्चिन्तयेत् ।तथा च श्रुतिः—‘तमेव धीरो विज्ञाय प्रज्ञां कुर्वीत ब्राह्मणः ।नानुध्यायाद्बहूञ्शब्दान्वाचो विग्लापनं हि तत्’ इति ।‘तमेवैकं जानथात्मानमन्या वाचो विमुञ्चथ’ इति ।‘एतज्ज्ञेयं नित्यमेवात्मसंस्थं नातः परं वेदितव्यं हि किञ्चित्’ इति ।तथा च भगवान्वासुदेवः—‘सङ्कल्पप्रभवान्कामांस्त्यक्त्वा सर्वानशेषतः ।मनसैवेन्द्रियग्रामं विनियम्य समन्ततः ॥शनैः शनैरुपरमेद्बुद्ध्या धृतिगृहीतया ।आत्मसंस्थं मनः कृत्वा न किञ्चिदपि चिन्तयेत्’ इति ।एवं प्रसङ्गात्सर्वशास्त्रार्थः संक्षेपतः प्रदर्शितः ॥

Thinking simply 'I am,' let one entertain no other thought. As the shruti declares: Knowing that self alone, the seeker should dwell in wisdom, refusing to chase a multitude of words, which is mere exhaustion of speech. Know that single self and drop all other talk. This alone is to be known, eternally resting within the self; nothing else whatsoever remains to be known beyond this. And as the blessed Vasudeva says: Leaving behind every single desire born of mental resolve, restraining the entire cluster of senses from every side through the mind alone, step by step let one grow quiet through a resolute intellect. Fixing the mind firmly within the self, let one think of nothing whatsoever. Thus, in due course, the essence of all scriptures has been briefly set forth.

I am, thus; one should think nothing else. And thus the shruti: Having clearly known that very one, the brahmana should cultivate wisdom; one should not meditate on many words, for that is indeed the exhaustion of speech. Know that one self alone, abandon other words. This is to be known, constantly abiding in the self; there is indeed nothing else to be known beyond this. And thus the blessed Vasudeva: Having abandoned desires born of will entirely without remainder, having completely restrained the group of senses from all sides by the mind alone, slowly, slowly one should desist by the intellect grasped by steadfastness. Having made the mind abide in the self, one should not think anything at all. Thus, by occasion, the meaning of all scriptures has been briefly demonstrated.
