यः पापानि कुर्वन् ऋगादिवेदमधीते, नैनं प्रतिषिद्धचारिणम् ऋगादयो वेदाः पापात् कर्मणः त्रायन्ते न रक्षन्ति ।न ते मिथ्या ब्रवीम्यहम् एवमेवैतत्, नात्राविश्वासः कर्तव्य इत्यर्थः ॥
In plain words
A man commits sin and goes on reciting the Ṛgveda and the rest. The Vedas will not pull him clear. He lives inside what they forbid, and they do not rescue him from that action, they do not shield him from it. "I am not telling you a falsehood" — it is exactly as stated. Do not hold back your trust on this point. That is the sense.

He who, doing sinful deeds, studies the Veda beginning with the Ṛg — him, one who walks in the forbidden, the Vedas beginning with the Ṛg do not rescue, do not protect, from sinful action. 'I do not speak falsely to you' — it is precisely so; no distrust is to be entertained here: this is the meaning.
