In plain words
The water has drained away, but the crab still cannot bring itself to leave its hole — and it dies there, out of sheer delusion. In just the same way, a man fastened to the comforts of home walks straight into his own ruin, and nothing but delusion carries him there.
Close to the Sanskrit
Even when the water has gone, the crab, unable indeed to abandon its hole, dies of utter delusion; just as that, so a man clinging to the comforts of home comes to ruin through delusion.
