। ॥ ४३३ ॥
In plain words
Some live on air. Others take in nothing but the light of the moon and the sun. Countless ones get by on a single drop of water; others swallow plain earth. Some feed on leaves, on stone, on grass; some on flesh; some on rice and barley and cooked food. This is how all these creatures stay alive.
Close to the Sanskrit
Some indeed have wind as their food; others are consumers of the radiance of moon and sun; some, beyond counting, are eaters of a drop of water; but some are devourers of earth. Some are intent on eating leaves, stone and grass; but some are eaters of flesh; some are devoted to feeding on rice, barley and cooked food — thus these creatures live.
