In plain words
One way or another the householder gets knotted into the cords of affection — son, wife, friends — laced up tight. And not once is he able to loosen them, step out of the house, and go. He dies right there, and it was all for nothing.
Close to the Sanskrit
Somehow or other knotted by the cords of affection for son, wife, and friends, the householder is never able, having released them, to go out from the house; he dies simply in vain.
