In plain words
A hundred cords of longing are knotted around his feet; he cannot even stand up. Lust, anger, pride and the rest are posted over him like enemy guards, and the watch never changes, day or night. And the prison of saṃsāra is itself hidden behind a screen of delusion. So among people still in love with what they want — owned outright by the threefold craving — who could ever walk out?
Close to the Sanskrit
With his feet noosed by a hundred cords of longing, he is not able even to rise; guarded ceaselessly by lust, anger, pride and the rest, who stand over him as enemy soldiers — from the prison-house of saṃsāra, kept concealed by the covering of utter delusion, who among the passionate, being in the power of the threefold craving, would be able to walk out?
