In plain words
Selfhood is laid on the son only as a figure of speech, to make plain that he belongs to the father. Take the words in their primary sense and śruti nowhere says: the son is the Self.
Close to the Sanskrit
For the making evident of ownership, selfhood is figuratively applied upon this one; but by the śruti, in the primary sense-function, 'the son is the Self' is not said.
