In plain words

There is a city whose treasure is liberation, and its first gate is the hardest gate there is to force. Two panels close it: money, and woman. The two of them hold it shut, and they hold it tight. Laid across them is a heavy beam of a bolt, and the bolt's name is desire. Gate, panels, bolt — three things. Whoever has the steadiness to break all three has earned the right to enjoy the splendour that is liberation.

Close to the Sanskrit

Of the city of the splendour of liberation, there is a first gate, the hardest of all to conquer. Of that gate there are two door-leaves, wealth and woman; by those two it is fastened, and fastened tight. The gate is barred by the strong wooden bolt called desire. That gate, this triad — whoever is steady and breaks it, he deserves to enjoy the happiness of the splendour of liberation.
