In plain words
A mother may hold out grapes, dates, mangoes or ripe bananas to quiet her weeping child. So too the Upaniṣad employs many approaches to awaken a mind made helpless by Saṃskāras—the ingrained habits of delusion gathered through countless births.
Close to the Sanskrit
A mother brings her crying child toward peace by holding a grape, date, mango or fine banana before its face. In the same way, the Upaniṣad thoroughly awakens the helpless, deeply deluded mind through many means of knowledge, for it bears Saṃskāras—habits of delusion—formed over many births.
