The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Svātmaprakāśikā

Verse 51

In plain words

A man whose sight has been shut off decides: there is no sun. A man wrapped over by ajñāna decides: there is no brahman.

Close to the Sanskrit

Just as one afflicted by the obstruction of sight thinks, 'The sun does not exist,' so the embodied one, covered over by ignorance, thinks, 'Brahman does not exist.'
