In plain words
From food are born all creatures that dwell upon the earth. By food alone they live, and into food they ultimately pass. Food is indeed the eldest of beings, and is therefore called the universal medicine. Those who meditate upon food as Brahman attain all food. Food is the oldest of beings, born and nourished by it, consuming creatures and being consumed by them. Different from that physical sheath made of food is the inner self made of vital breath, by which the physical body is completely filled. It too has a human form, modeled after the outer shape: prana is its head, vyana its right wing, apana its left wing, space its trunk, and the earth its foundational tail. Regarding this, there is the following verse.
