Day and night don't happen in the sun. The sun's nature is light, all the way through, with no variation in it. In the same way, knowing and not-knowing don't happen in the Self. Its nature is awareness, all the way through, with no variation in it.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as, in the sun, there is no day and night, because of the non-difference of its light-nature, so in the Self there is no knowing and not-knowing, because of the non-difference of its awareness-nature.
