Vākyavṛttiḥ

Verse 48

मानान्तरविरोधे तु मुख्यार्थस्य परिग्रहे ।मुख्यार्थेनाविनाभूते प्रतीतिर्लक्षणोच्यते ॥ ४७ ॥

In plain words

When accepting the literal meaning creates a contradiction with other valid means of knowledge, the cognition of something intimately connected to that literal meaning is what we call implication.

Close to the Sanskrit

But when there is a contradiction with another means of knowledge in accepting the primary meaning, understanding in that which is inseparably connected with the primary meaning is called indication.
