च भगवद्वचनम्—'यस्मान्न च्युतपूर्वोऽहमच्युतस्तेन कर्मणा' इति ॥इति नाम्नां प्रथमं शतं विवृतम् ॥वर्षणात् सर्वकामाणां धर्मो वृषः; कात् तोयात् भूमिमपाददिति कपिर्वराहः; वृषरूपत्वात्कपिरूपत्वाच्च वृषाकपिः ।'कपिर्वराहः श्रेष्ठश्च धर्मश्च वृष उच्यते ।तस्माद्वृषाकपिं प्राह काश्यपो मां प्रजापतिः' इति महाभारते ।इयानिति मातुं परिच्छेत्तुं न शक्यते आत्मा अस्येति अमेयात्मा ।सर्वसंबन्धविनिर्गतः सर्वयोगविनिःसृतः; 'असङ्गो ह्ययं पुरुषः' इति श्रुतेः ।नानाशास्त्रोक्ताद्योगादपगतत्वाद्वा ॥

And the Lord's own declaration: 'Because I have never fallen before, I am Acyuta by that very deed.' Thus the first hundred names are explained. Vṛṣa is righteousness because He showers all desired blessings; Kapi is the Boar, because He raised the earth from the waters; and He is Vṛṣākapi because He embodies both the bull and the boar. As the Mahābhārata states: 'The boar is Varāha, the highest, and righteousness is called Vṛṣa. Therefore Prajāpati Kāśyapa addressed Me as Vṛṣākapi.' Ameyātmā is so named because His Self cannot be measured or circumscribed as 'just this much.' He is entirely free from all worldly ties and attachments, as the śruti declares: 'This spirit is truly unattached.' Or He is so called because He transcends all meditative practices described in various scriptures.

Vṛṣa is dharma because of showering all desires; kapi is varāha [boar] because he lifted the earth from water; Vṛṣākapi because of having the nature of a bull and a boar. 'The boar is varāha, and best, and dharma is called vṛṣa. Therefore Prajāpati Kāśyapa called me Vṛṣākapi' in the Mahābhārata. Ameyātmā because His self cannot be measured or delimited as 'this much'. Free from all connections, free from all attachments; because of the śruti 'This puruṣa is indeed unattached'. Or because of being apart from yoga and the like declared in various scriptures.
