Verse 412

जन्मसंसारबन्धनादुत्तरतीति उत्तरः; सर्वोत्कृष्ट इति वा, 'विश्वस्मादिन्द्र उत्तरः' इति श्रुतेः ।गवां पालनाद्गोपवेषधरो गोपतिः; गौर्मही, तस्याः पतित्वाद्वा ।समस्तभूतानि पालयन् रक्षको जगतः इति गोप्ता ।न कर्मणा न ज्ञानकर्मभ्यां वा गम्यते, किंतु ज्ञानेन गम्यते इति ज्ञानगम्यः ।कालेनापरिच्छिन्नत्वात् पुरापि भवतीति पुरातनः ।

In plain words

Uttara is He who ferries beings across the ocean of birth and death, or supreme, as the Veda declares: 'Higher than the entire universe is He.' Gopati is the lord of cows and the earth, who once assumed the guise of a cowherd. Goptā is the guardian who sustains all creatures. Jñānagamya is He who cannot be reached by ritual action or even combined ritual and meditation, but is realized through direct knowledge alone. Purātana is the ancient one who exists eternally, untouched by the limits of time.
