। ॥ १४७ ॥
In plain words
Picture this whole business of samsara as a tree. Ignorance is the seed. The idea 'I am this body' is the sprout that pushes up from it. Attachment is the tender new leaf, and action is the water that keeps feeding it all. The body itself is the trunk; the breaths of life are its branches; the cluster of senses, its twigs; the objects of the senses, its flowers. And the fruit -- fruit of every kind, grown from countless different actions -- is suffering. Perched in this tree, eating that fruit, is the bird: the individual soul.

The seed of this tree born of the soil of samsara is indeed ignorance; the sprout is the notion of the body as the Self; attachment is the tender shoot; water is action; the trunk is indeed the body; the vital breaths are the branches; the aggregate of senses are the twigs; sense-objects are the flowers; sorrow, of many kinds arising from various actions, is the fruit; and here, the enjoyer is the individual soul, the bird.
