। ॥ २५० ॥
In plain words
When you say, 'This is that Devadatta,' you recognize one person by setting aside the attributes that conflict. In the same way, 'That thou art' declares one identity: let go of the contradictory attributes on both sides.
Close to the Sanskrit
As in [the sentence] 'this is that Devadatta,' the identity here is stated by setting aside the portion of contradictory attributes [i.e., differing time, place, and form] — so too, in the sentence 'tattvam asi,' [identity is stated] by discarding the contradictory attributes on both sides.
