। ॥ ३१२ ॥

In plain words

Only someone who has mistaken the body for the self can crave anything at all - how could the true Self, entirely other than the body, ever be a craver? So it is this very habit of chasing after things, rooted in the illusion of separateness, that keeps a person bound to this world.

Close to the Sanskrit

Only one who stands identified with the body as the self is a desirer; how could one distinct from the body be a desirer? Therefore, it is precisely the preoccupation with pursuing objects, through the persistence of duality, that is the cause of bondage to existence.
