Yamunāṣṭakam

Verse 1

In plain words

An ocean of compassion. Daughter of the sun. She who cools every burning. Dearest to Murāri, a wildfire against the fear of birth and death, giver of the gift of devotion. Untouched by the flame of the blazing sky, and herself the wealth by which joy is won — day after day, always, the steady-minded one surely worships Yamunā, who gives fruit that never runs out.

Close to the Sanskrit

Her who is an ocean of compassion, the daughter of the sun, the queller of burning heat, the dearest beloved of Murāri, a forest fire to the fear of worldly existence, the granter of the boon of devotion, wholly released from the flame of the sky, and also the very wealth of the attainment of happiness — day after day, always, the steadfast one surely worships Yamunā, the giver of eternal fruit.
