The Guru replied: “The mind moves through three guṇas. When one rises, the other two recede. When sattva predominates, dharma and the divine qualities of the true path arise. When rajas prevails, worldly, bodily and scriptural compulsions flourish. When tamas dominates, demonic tendencies arise. Understand this well, dear son.”
