In plain words
The Guru distinguishes two senses of knowledge: svarūpa-jñāna, Consciousness as one’s very nature, and vṛtti-jñāna, the knowledge-modification in the mind. They are not two consciousnesses; the latter is the former shining through a particular mental form. Pure Consciousness alone does not oppose ignorance, as deep sleep shows; the knowledge-vṛtti destroys the ignorance associated with it.
