Although vṛtti-jñāna appears as a modification of the inner instrument, do not therefore class it with action. Actions depend upon the doer and may vary according to his choice; but the knowledge won through the labour of inquiry is not something the person can manufacture at will—it is vastu-tantra, governed by the thing itself.
