Question and answer 7

In plain words

Disciple: The sorrow of saṃsāra, birth, death and the rest, is plainly before my eyes. How can you say it is never in me?

Guru: Know that this world, with its birth and the rest, appears falsely, through the ignorance that does not know your Self, which is Brahman, as the snake appears in the rope, blueness in the sky, or a dream in sleep.

Word for word

Disciple: While the sorrow of saṃsāra in the form of birth, death and the rest is directly perceived, how is it said that it is never in me?

Guru: Know: the world of birth and so on appears falsely, as the snake on a rope, the blue of the sky and the dream, through the ignorance that does not know your Self, which is Brahman.
