The inner self is the stage. Of such a one, the dancer in the drama of the world, he names the stage, the place where he takes up his roles and sets his steps: The stage (raṅga) is that in which the Self delights (rajyate), intent on displaying the play of the drama of the world: the place for taking up this role and that. The inner self is the jīva, inner in relation to the body, in the form of the puryaṣṭaka, whose reality is the appearing of contraction, with the void or with prāṇa as its chief.
