In plain words
Otherwise: If this were not so, that You alone are what these words speak of, then, O God, what wise man would have laboured over the nets of words? ‘Nets of words’ are the waves of the śāstras, which seem to show Your true nature as hidden, but which in truth, because they are made of the body of the mass of sound, rest in Your true nature alone. Therefore ‘if this were not so’, that is, if it were not recognised, then what ‘wise man’, that is, one who goes by the means of knowledge, would have set out on inquiring into them, whose only fruit is toil?
