In plain words

His father said, "Thou shouldst know me well enough, my son, to know that whatever I know I have told thee all. But come, let us go there and live as students of sacred knowledge." "Go thou thyself, sir." So Gautama went to where Pravāhaṇa Jaivali was. He had a seat brought for him and had water fetched, and made him the guest-offering, and said, "We give a boon to the reverend Gautama."

In plain words

He said — the father, calming his angry son — 'Know this about me, dear child: jānīthāḥ just means understand — understand that whatever I know, every bit of it, I have already given to you. Who could possibly be dearer to me than you, that I would hold something back from you? I myself don't know the answer to what the king asked;'

Close to the Sanskrit

He said, the father pacifying his angry son — 'in that manner, you should know us, me, O dear child, dear one — jānīthāḥ means gṛhīthāḥ, you should grasp — that is: whatever store of knowledge I know, all of that I told you — you should understand it exactly so. Who else is dearer to me than you, for whose sake I would withhold anything? I myself do not know this, that which was asked by the king;'
