In plain words
Now, O king, the hindrances to knowledge. This indeed is the source of the net of delusion: that those who do not deserve heaven should keep company with those who do. Though it is said that there is a tree above, they cling to the stump below. And there are others who are always merry, always abroad, always begging, always living by a craft; and others who beg in towns, who beg from those unfit to sacrifice for, who are the pupils of low men, and low men who are learned in the sacred books; and others who are flatterers, wearers of matted hair, dancers, hirelings, wandering mendicants, players of parts, men fallen from the king's service and the rest; and others who, putting forward the business of Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, hosts of spirits, Piśācas, serpents and demons of seizure, say, "We shall lay them to rest"; and others who wear the ochre robe and earrings and skulls to no purpose; and others who wish to make a place for themselves among the followers of the Veda by false reasoning, false examples, trickery and conjuring. With these a man should not dwell. They are plainly thieves, and not deserving of heaven. So it is said: "Bewildered by the trickery of the doctrine of no-self, by false examples and false grounds, the world does not know what lies between the Veda and knowledge."
