Verse 36

னாமுடலென் றெண்ணினல நாமதுவென் றெண்ணுமதுநாமதுவா நிற்பதற்கு நற்றுணையே யாமென்றுநாமதுவென் றெண்ணுவதே னான்மனித னென்றெணுமோநாமதுவா நிற்குமத னாலறியா தேமுயலுஞ்

நாம் உடல் என்று எண்ணினல நாம் அது என்று எண்ணும் அது நாம் அதுவா நிற்பதற்கு நல் துணையே ஆம் என்று நாம் அது என்று எண்ணுவதேன் நான் மனிதன் என்று எணுமோ நாம் அதுவா நிற்கும் அதனால் அறியாது ஏ முயலும்

In plain words

Suppose you have stopped thinking you are the body. Then thinking 'I am That' is a good help — genuinely good, and Bhagavan says so. But then he asks the question that ends the matter. Why think it at all? Do you walk around all day thinking 'I am a human being'? You do not. You simply are one, and the thought would be redundant. You are already That, in exactly the same way.

Word for word

If we do not think 'we are the body', the thinking 'we are That' is a good aid for abiding as That. Why think 'we are That'? Does one go about thinking 'I am a man'? We abide as That. Therefore, striving without knowing —
