A man asleep in a moving cart: the cart rolls on, the cart halts, the cart is unyoked and left standing — and he knows nothing of any of it, for to him the three are one and the same. Just so with one who has truly known himself and sleeps, as it were, within this cart of flesh. Doing, deep absorption, dreamless sleep — these come and go around him. He is not touched by the difference.

For the one who sleeps in the cart, that cart's going, standing still, together with the cart's coming to stand alone — [these] are indeed alike. So too, for the true knower who sleeps inside the fleshly body which is the cart, work, steadfast absorption, and sleep [are alike].
