In plain words

Ask first where the one who reads the writing was ever born — and then, is not that written destiny worth wiping out altogether? What is gained by knowing letters, if the one who knows them is never looked into? Such knowers have only come to be sound-making machines, holding noise and giving it back. Wise One of the Red Hill, who else is there to tell me? Speak.

Word for word

Having thought, "Where was that born which knows letters?" — is it not needed to destroy the writing? Having known letters, what of it? They have attained the nature of a sound-holding machine. O Adept of Sonagiri, who else? Speak!
