The works of Ramaṇa Maharṣi

Upadeśa Undiyār

Verse 25

In plain words

You have wanted to know God, and you have wanted to know yourself, and you have thought these were two errands. Set down the additions — the body, the history, the scope of what you can do — and look at what is left. That looking is the other errand too. Not a step towards it. It. Because the light you find there is not yours. It is His, shining as you.

Word for word

To know oneself apart from the adjuncts is itself to know Īśa, because he shines as the Self. Fly up, undī! Fly up, undī!
