Bhagavadgītābhāṣyam

In plain words

But here is how it actually stands —

You cannot see me in my universal form with this eye — the ordinary eye made of nature, the one that is your own. That is what 'with your own eye' means. But there is an eye by which you can see, a divine one, and that divine eye I now give you — 'to you' is the sense of the word. With that, look at my lordly yoga. 'Lordly' means belonging to the Lord, belonging to me: my lordly yoga, which is to say, the utmost reach of the power of yoga. That is the meaning.

Close to the Sanskrit

But rather —

But me, bearing the universal form, you are not able to see with this very natural eye of your own — svacakṣuṣā, that is, with your own eye. But that divine one by which you are able to see — that divine eye I give to you, te meaning tubhyam. With that, behold my lordly yoga: aiśvara means of the Lord, of me; my lordly yoga, that is, the surpassing degree of the power of yoga — such is the meaning.

Gītā Vāhini

Then Arjuna joined both his hands. “Kṛṣṇa! The whole universe is Your form, is it not! Are not the Jñāna, aiśvarya, śakti, bala, vīrya and tejas in it the very essences of Your form? Will You not show me, just once, Your Viśvarūpa, in which all these are joined together, and so make me fulfilled? I pray to You, touching Your feet!” he asked, with humility and obedience. Then the Paramātma said, “Brother-in-law! Arjuna! I shall surely grant your wish; but it is not possible to see Me, the bearer of the Viśvarūpa, with these eyes of Prakṛti. You cannot see Me. So I shall grant you sight that is beyond Prakṛti! Look!” And bestowing divine sight on him, Kṛṣṇa, supremely compassionate, the very svarūpa of the Paramātma, showed him His ‘Viśvarūpa’.
