If you wish to know the worth of the “Gītā”, a spirit of reverence towards it must first arise in you. The Gītā calls for open scrutiny and outward observation; these are essential. Once you know its inner meaning, you come to see how deep it is. The Upaniṣads are the cows, Arjuna is the calf, Gopāla is the one who milks, those of good understanding are the ones who drink, and the holy nectar of the Gītā is the milk. Ah, what an unfathomable labour! Some say that this holy labour belongs to a time later than the Mahābhārata. That is not right. However the question of when the text of the Gītā was composed may stand, its tattva is beginningless.
