To free man from the bonds of his own imagining, to grant him Mukti, and to carry him back to his original freedom, to the state of serenity, the boat that is the Gītā's message has stood as man's support. The Gītā teaches man a way of acting, and a karma, untainted by the vāsanās and the like that are the root cause of the cycle of birth and death. In truth, man has taken on a body in this field of karma only in order to perform karma. Declaring that it is not for the fruit of karma, the Gītā teaches niṣkāma karma again and again.
