Despondency, too, is a blessing when it shows the way to take refuge in God with sincerity and a steady nature, as it did for Arjuna, in whom there was no falsehood or deceit. That too is a yoga. The Gītā, which began with Viṣāda Yoga, ended with ‘Sannyāsa Yoga’. ‘Viṣāda Yoga’ became the foundation of the Gītā mansion, and ‘Sannyāsa Yoga’ was raised upon it as the building. If “Viṣāda Yoga” is the seed of the Gītā tree, “Sannyāsa Yoga” is that tree's fruit. Here readers may also raise the doubt, “How is Arjuna of a pure nature?” In fact, the name Arjuna means ‘one of pure nature’; it lies in the name itself. He is true to his name, so the meaning of his name is his nature. Arjuna is the one in whom nature and name took a single form. It was precisely because he was so pure that he could become close to “Kṛṣṇa Paramātma”. He became worthy of the Paramātma's grace. Standing as the instrument, he was able to share out so much nectar to the world.
