“To stand on the side of Dharma and wipe out Adharma is the supremely holy dharma of the kṣatriya. Brother-in-law! Arjuna! That men as great as Bhīṣma and the rest stand against you in battle is your good fortune, fortune indeed! Was it not because he was bound by kṣatriya dharma that Bhīṣma, whom you hold in the highest reverence and who is your grandsire, fought on that day with Paraśurāma, a brāhmaṇa and, more than that, the guru who had taught him all the vidyās! Have you considered that? Did Bhīṣma too weep like this that day? Bhīṣma himself, endowed with every good quality, a great man of renunciation, held to his own kṣatriya dharma and fought with Paraśurāma, his brāhmaṇa guru; and you, forgetting that, turn coward and draw back from fighting those who have carried out such dharmic karmas! To defeat all and uphold Dharma is the highest good for the kṣatriya race; that alone is the path of good.”
