Not for Indians alone but for the whole world, the sun is the visible God. The whole world runs by time; so the chief support of time, too, is the sun. Time comes into being from him alone; so we also say that Kāla is the son of the sun. Every human being's life is bound by time; so the sun is the god who is the support of life and the object of its worship. Whether or not a man makes an offering to anyone else, all his karmas cannot escape being offered to the sun at least.
