Some people keep saying, 'I know the Gītā completely by heart,' and 'I have such experience that, whatever śloka of whatever chapter you ask for, I can say it straight off!' When I hear this, when I see such scholarship, I have to laugh. To have it all by heart without an atom of it lived yields nothing but strain on the throat. In that respect, like a “gramophone plate” (Gramophone Plate), these people too can be called a plate. As much fruit as the plate gets, just so much fruit do those who have learnt it by heart get. Even if they do not know so many ślokas by heart, those who keep a single śloka in practice are blessed.
