Passage 20

In plain words

How then can Bhārat be a land of Dharma, a land of yoga, a land of renunciation? That, it seems, is why our land of Bhārat, the very form of Annapūrṇā, has today had to writhe, crying “Food!” On the mountains, in the caves, on the banks of the sacred rivers and in the holy places where “Śivohaṃ, Śivohaṃ” used to be heard, today we hear “Śavohaṃ, Śavohaṃ”.

Why speak of one thing only? In everything, our country today is without joy, full of unrest, the very form of selfishness, and resplendent with displays of pomp. So today preaching that takes the form of practice is most urgently needed. This is something everyone, from the unlearned man to those who are called ‘Paramahaṃsa’, must come to know. We must give greater care to the Gītā, believe it to be the very words of Paramātma Himself, and practise it.
