“That alone does not move the deity one worships to bestow Mukti in grace. Those who wish to attain that Mukti must first give up attachment to the body. Unless that happens, the state of the Ātma does not come. Attachment to the body is a form of Avidyā. The Ātma must be separated from Prakṛti. For that, the vāsanā for sense objects that lies in the antaḥkaraṇa must be destroyed through dhyāna and tapas. As soon as it is destroyed, the jīva is freed from the grip of birth and death, just as dried coconut kernels never join the fibre and the shells again, never sprout again, and do not spoil however long they are kept; nor does it ever waver from the attainment of Mokṣa. This is called the state of ‘Jīvanmukti’.”
