In plain words
It went on like this all through the night, until half past three. And what next! At brahmamuhūrta, after all, the nagarasaṅkīrtana begins! Bhajan on the road, in huge crowds, stretching for miles. The whole of Delhi swayed with excitement. Ministers in the government, officials, ordinary people, rickshaw-pullers, the poor, those who do the scavenging work, every one of them was given Ānanda and blessed.
While I was taking in their Ānanda in this way, and they were taking in Mine, Gulzarilal Nanda came and firmly insisted that a great yajña the Akhila Bhārata Sādhu Samāj was holding at Kurukṣetra must be begun by Swami's own hands. When I told him that I could not leave the devotees who were coming to Delhi in so great a flood, with hopes as high as a mountain, and disappoint them, he set about getting this person and that person to speak to Swami. “In your politics there may be room for recommendations, but you, who have rightly understood My feelings and My ways, know it yourself. I am not one to listen to recommendations like that,” I said. But I came to know that he had pinned a great hope on having the opening of that yajña performed by Me Myself. He felt that to become worthy of My grace would be a good fortune that would bring him boundless Ānanda. Since he had the lofty aim of giving up his all for the Sādhu Samāj itself, I resolved to satisfy him, and I went there at two in the afternoon (having reckoned that in that blazing sun you get scorched from above and below, so nobody would wait very long, and not many would be disappointed).
