In plain words
In the villages above all, life today is the hardest. The helpless, the sick and the simple folk there need help of many kinds, and need it urgently today. In the towns there are many institutions for these; in the villages, few indeed; and there is the chance to lead onto the spiritual path those whose illness has grown severe through changes in their food and habits and who suffer, and those who have fallen into unrest and are in torment. With nāmasaṅkīrtana and bhajans you must cleanse the impure atmosphere. The doctors and lawyers in the Seva Dal must set about solving the villagers' problems. They must give them fitting advice and help them. Telling them spiritual stories, you must plant in their hearts the feeling of brotherhood and the principle of Prema.
One convener for each district, one convener for each state. It is My resolve that these be appointed to further the work of founding, sustaining and training the Seva Dal.
Now, the matter of the uniform dress: if your dress is ugly and outlandish, no one will ask you for help or come near you. If women and men go about decked out in all kinds of showy finery after the very latest fashions, ordinary people will only keep their distance from them. Protecting the body and protecting your honour: both of these you must see to through your dress, and that is all.
