In plain words
I set no value at all on your dress as a uniform; but clothe each of your hearts in the garment of Prema, and fit each of your eyes with the vision that sees all alike. That is the very uniform I want of you! As far as I am concerned, that alone is enough! But when district conferences, state conferences and All-India conferences are held, one uniform has to be worn. White clothes, and only those. They are the emblems of a pure and selfless disposition. Full-arm shirts without ugly pictures of jackals, dogs and the like; trousers that are proper, not like drainage pipes: wear these.
Next, the question came up of what the difference is between volunteers and members of the Seva Dal. Members of the Seva Dal must be ready for service at all times, wherever they may be. Special spiritual training has also been laid down for them. Well trained for service of many kinds, they stand ready at all times. Volunteers, however, do their duties only at gatherings, each doing his own as far as his own strength allows. They have not much to do with either training or rules.
Another important thing: the spirit of service must first of all be put into action in your very own homes. If you do not serve your own mothers and fathers, whatever you may do outside, Swami will not grant you His grace.
