In plain words
Turning this plight over in her mind: ‘Alas! Who is there to stand in the way at this moment?’ she fretted; and thinking, ‘If I go to Rukmiṇī, perhaps she will help somehow’, she went to Rukmiṇī. At that time she was doing her tulasī pūjā. Seeing her plight: ‘Little sister! You need not worry. I am coming,’ she said, and holding that tulasī leaf in her hand, she touched it to her eyes and went with Satyabhāmā to Kṛṣṇa. But Rukmiṇī, having purity of citta, understood the situation Kṛṣṇa and Nārada were in there. Seeing it, she too: ‘Alas! This Satyā has tried to buy God with wealth. It is only because this is simply the wrong way that she has fallen into so much trouble’; and going up close, ‘Nārada! The weight that matches my Kṛṣṇa, the right weight, is the Name alone,’ and she said, ‘Kṛṣṇa!’ Nārada did not agree to that. If you hand me a formless Name for Kṛṣṇa who has form, I will not accept it at all. For what has form, only what has form must be given, Nārada insisted. Then, thinking of Kṛṣṇa Himself,
A leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water: if it is true, Kṛṣṇa, that You yield to those who have Bhakti, may You balance against this tulasī leaf!
‘A leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, Kṛṣṇa! If You prove that it is true that You yield to one who has Bhakti, You will balance against this tulasī leaf’; and bowing to Kṛṣṇa, with ‘Kṛṣṇa!’ she laid down the tulasī leaf. The Name of Kṛṣṇa came to a weight equal to Kṛṣṇa. The tulasī leaf turned into extra weight. So God is won only by a citta that worships Him with Prema; trying to catch God in your grip by mere cleverness and crookedness, pretending to have understood Him, is not something that can succeed. In whatever way you lay your fox's tricks, God stands ready to lay fox's tricks a thousand times over and make a dog of you. So, become pure in citta, and strive to attain God with Prema. That, and not otherwise: if, by mere show on the surface, you go beyond what you have been told and take the wrong road, the Paramātma will not come to you, will not be caught by you; on this you must stay steady in citta.
